Standards, for the installation Ancestors linked to the Stars
» Silk standards are primary elements for me, tying in with the black veil embroidered with gold and silver thread which covers the Kaaba at Mecca and which is renewed every year when it’s time for the Pilgrimage. The atmosphere created by this sea of banners suggests the invisible presence of all these ancestors, as in the initiation circle. Out of respect for the three religions shown, I deliberately chose three different fabric colours for each banner, embroidered with matching silk thread. Doesn’t Islam say that we can’t be Muslims if we don’t believe in the prophets Moses and Jesus who came before the prophet of Islam, Mohammed? » Rachid Koraïchi, extract from the book Les ancêtres liés aux étoiles.
