Garden of the Orient, Château Royal d’ Amboise, Château Royal d’ Amboise, 2005.
This garden was created in homage to Emir Abdelkader, the nationalist leader who defied French occupation in the middle of the 19th century. He was born in 1808 in Mascara, Algeria, and died in Damascus, Syria. He was imprisoned in the Château d’ Amboise between 1848 and 1852. He left 25 members of his family behind, who died during these four years of captivity.
